What is your Name?

Marc David Bingham

How old are you?

27

How did you get into art?

Art has been in my family since I was born and I would have to say my mother gave me the initial drive to be an artist.  Her love of fine art fascinated me and although my artwork took on a completely different direction, I still recall looking through Van Gogh and Monet books and replicating them as close as possible.  When I went to School I started getting into graphics.  It was not the sort of graphics we see today however as it was all hand drawn using rulers and compasses to deliver accurate shapes and objects.  I really started going digital in my University years and eventually it became my main medium as I am completely drawn in by what techniques and skills modern digital art packages contain.  However this does not stop me from pulling out the pencil and sketchbook from time to time.

What inspires you?

I look around today and I watch how the world is being shaped and I try to process that in my work.  I see over population, an abundance of the “new” but at the same time I see enough dirt and grime to shadow whatever we as a species invent next.  Sometimes I visit places I have not been in a while and where there was nothing before there are now ultra modern buildings and high-rise apartments.  What I see is a dystopian ideology of overcrowding, the impending introduction of advanced technology and a ton of dirt for each person.  What I see isn’t pretty but its this idea that most inspires me.  Next time you’re in a city look underneath and behind what you normally would, I guarantee it will disgust you. With The population exceeding 70 Billion in the next 10 years or so I see a very grim future unless we as a species do something about it.  I like art that gives me a sense of doom and struggle.  I’d say my favorite artists are Salvador Dali and HR Giger and they have been for years.  I like to look at concept art for video games as there is so much of it and I love the process of creating worlds from concept to finished product.  Game concept art I would recommend to look are Fallout, Deus Ex Human Revolution and Rage.

What is your favorite medium?

Digital Art. Mainly using my tablet, Photoshop and Illustrator, although I do draw all my initial ideas with the ole pencil and pen and either scan in or draw on illustrator for that delicious vector finish.

How do you think your art will affect people in the next five years?

I just hope I can contribute to something.  Of course I would love my own business and the ability to do what I want but it’s working as a team that I really want.  There is no feeling like accomplishing something as a team and id say they are the most directly affected people in the implementation of a design.  Even when you have sold a product id say it is the team who created it who gets the most pleasure.  That is the main reason I wanted to sell T-Shirts, I wanted to get the feeling of accomplishment and also give cool products to my friends and the public.

Where do you want to be at in your art career in the next 3 years?

I want to be a Concept Artist for Video Games and I also want my own business to be set in stone and doing well.  Thank you MLC Apparel for inspiring me to keep digging at it!
